The art of gift wrapping
When was the last time you opened a meticulously wrapped gift? That long, huh? Wrapping gifts seems to be a dying art. Our harried lives forces us to deliver gifts in a lackluster gift bag lined with tissue paper. Afterall, it's the thought that counts, right? I'm on a quest to change that practice.
As a college student, I had the pleasure of completing an internship at the upscale department store, Neiman Marcus. Initially, I was not thrilled to work in the men's department however I discovered this department to be a goldmine where I mastered the art of customer service. I found this space to be fascinating with so much opportunity to learn from my experienced colleagues, meet new clients and grow in my profession.
Shortly after orientation, each new employee was required to attend a gift wrapping class for which I anticipated great things. Every wrapping paper and ribbon imaginable to honor every season and occasion filled the room. Our instructor demonstrated how to meticulously cover gift boxes, folding the edges neatly and clean. We disguised raw edges of the gift wrap and used double stick tape to create a professional finish.
These skills serve me well today as a business owner. Naturally bakers measure ingredients, carefully blending them to create the perfect pastry. Our gifts are the icing on the cake (pun intended) as we marry these two talents. Today we gift wrap pastries using the same techniques that I learned during my internship at Neiman Marcus. Our customer rave and appreciate the boxes as much as the sweet treats inside!
