A special cake for Mother's Day

Me and my mother, the woman who taught me how to bake.

In 1992, during my high school years, I had the privilege of being in Mr. Reed’s chemistry class, a time I reminisce fondly. What set Mr. Reed apart was his unique approach to teaching, blending education with entertainment. His class wasn't just about chemical reactions; it was an experience, complete with Phil Collins tunes and molecular connections that danced to the beat. Little did I know, we shared a love for baking.

As the school year drew to a close, Mr. Reed revealed his plan to bake cakes for Mother’s Day, offering them for sale to interested students. Looking back, I realize how baking, much like chemistry, is indeed a science experiment. It was evident that Mr. Reed’s passion for experimentation extended beyond the classroom.

Eager to support my teacher and treat my mom, I was the first to purchase one of Mr. Reed's cakes with my saved allowance from Dad. The anticipation of my mother's reaction filled me with excitement as I handed her the sweet gift. Her approval meant the world to me, as her opinion always held the highest regard in my eyes.

Reflecting on that special moment, I realize the impact teachers like Mr. Reed have on our lives. Their passion, dedication, and ability to make learning memorable leave a lasting imprint on our hearts. Mr. Reed will forever hold a cherished place in my memories, a testament to the profound influence educators can have on their students.
